Last Hurrah

so friday night I was telling anyone who would listen "It's a marathon tomorrow guys, not a sprint." Luckily I stuck to it and made it through the marathon of a day strong to top off a wild weekend. A few of my friends unfortuntaly missed the memo.I knew things were gonna be a little insane when if found out a total of 7 people were staying in my cubical of a ogg cell. We started out right with brats for breakfast at 10am.... we soo live in wisconsin. The rest of the day was filled with random ass people i saw on the street from every aspect of my life basically. The rain was no damper for a while- until it created mass amounts of mud which somehow ended up all over my attire.

Funniest part of the day?

When I was sprawled out with my four amigos around 8pm on a futon- a person to remain unnamed, stumbled through the door in a drunken sleepwalk, dropped her drawers in front of us, sat down on a small white coffee table, STOOD UP and preceded to remove the shotglasses she had sat on, and SAT BACK DOWN thinking she was on a device known to us as the toliet. Four people screaming at the top of their lungs is the back drop to this scene.

ooooh mifflin.

For what it's worth

The awaited day.

Evaluations for Espanol 204. I was nervous missing class on Tuesday for global village- I did NOT want to miss the Evals. Luckily It happened today. The entire class felt a sence of empowerment as we all went past the bell 5 min scribbling down all of our comments. The ink was flow'n and it felt good.

An individual said, "Man I feel bad giving this bad of an eval....maybe I'll take it down a notch."

Another replied with, "I don't think he felt bad when he laughed outloud at our questions."

Touche my friend. Touche.

a year already?

Tonight we watched a powerpoint that captured brief tidbits of the entire schoolyear. I can't believe a year has gone by already, and what is more is I can't believe how close I've grown to people in this little org called @. Randomly going to an info session in my first weeks on a college campus has turned into something soo much more. I've become so close to people I've know less than 7 months...heck I've grown closer to people I've known for a little over 3 months...than somepeople I've known my whole life. CRAZY. I feel so lucky to be constantly (and I mean constantly) surrounded by such an awesome group of such inspiring and motivated people. Good luck to everyone going out into the world this summer with ambitious goals- rock out and bring a little Madison with ya...

Go big or go home

Friday morning was filled with me scrambling to study the first 8 chapters of my Spanish novel for my 120 exam. For 50 minutes I was supposed to be concentrated on my true falses and essays, but my mind kept wandering to the events of the weekend that were planned out before me. Oh the craziness that would unfold...

Seeing as we obviously don't mess around- those not in Austin took one of these to the Brewer Game. Things were fine and dandy at about this time as the sun still was shining and we luckily had the proper tunes (until the fuse blew).

The game was filled with trips to get Grace nachos with beef, one dollar hot dogs, and the occasional CHARGE!

On the way home the music was up and running and the strobe light got turned on...only trouble is to come...

The rest of the story remains in the hearts of those who lived it- and the pictures will be produced upon request.

PS-If you are missing a cd- its possible it ended up in my possession.

Badger in Buenos Aires

I'm going to South America within the next two years of my life. Until then- I can read about how sweet it is... JMOR's adventures in Buenos Aires and more... Miss you Chica!!

...The next weekend, I flew down to Patagonia with 4 other friends from
the program. I’m attaching a couple pictures from the trip, but they
can’t even do justice to how amazing this place was. We went to El
Calafate, which is home to tons of glaciers including the Perrito
Morreno Glaciar, which we got to hike on! It’s the biggest in the
area and one of the only glaciers that is not disappearing due to
global warning (although not according to American republicans our
tour guide reminded us…) We also went horseback riding in the hills
and valleys around the Andes mountains followed by another asado and
wine dinner with a campfire (are you sensing a common Argentine
tradition?) The next day we took a bus (4 ½ hours which now seems
like nothing and I don’t think I can ever complain about the drive to
Madison again!) to El Chaltén, another city in Patagonia a little
further north. We went on a 13 mile day hike up to a viewpoint for
Fitz Roy, the biggest and most well known mo
untain in the area. It was absolutely gorgeous. After hiking
straight up for 1 ½ hours, we climbed over the top and were suddenly
at this completely deserted, serene, quiet and private glacier lake
surrounded by the huge peak of Fitz Roy (see attached picture and
realize that it was 100 times cooler than it looks.)
So that was the Patagonia trip…so much fun and such amazing views.
...

*sigh* trying not to think toooo far ahead in my life..but it's hard when you hear about how amazing the world is!

Jelly Beans in my Church Pew

As i wipe of my sugar fingers on my pant leg, the good 'ol Easter I remember growing up comes back into my head. Remember the days when you woke up really earlly and searched your house for your basket? One year mine was in the Dryer... It took me about an hour to find and I think I started crying. I think my Dad was teaching me a life lesson- he has done things like that a lot to me over the years. It builds character he says, and I'm sure he's right. And ya, a stomach full of chocolate before 9am...what a feeling.

Today was the final day I was able to walk through my childhood house. 15 years of memories engulfed me as I walked through each empty room by myself. 15 christmas trees, 15 first day of school, 15 summers, sleepovers, fights, spills, tears, laughs... It is a good thing memories are carried in your heart and not your house.

Happy Easter- Christ is Risen, Alleluia...

a little bitter

There were two people from my coach group there tonight. What is wrong with the world.

Tuesday, April 11, 2006

Sorry Helen- Can't say that I miss ya...

*sigh* best feeling in the WORLD was felt today. Walking out of Bascom at 630 into the beautiful weather, seeing the gorgeous city, and being DONE with midterms and papers. The evening was spent in good company...first an hour brainstorming Tshirt logos during a coach meeting- PREPARE FOR IMPACT- AIESEC: THE CULTURE SHOCKER... was among the many brilliant ideas. An icecream run was in order from my lover, and a good 2 hours was spent spralled out on a comfy couch at 101. I think i might reward myself with sleeping in tomorrow for a week well done...hmm.... not sure, but i know one thing for sure- I wasn't miss'n helen tonight.

We are Family

So, It was pulled off, and let me tell you, I think Stones Roked. I'm not going to lie, when I saw the small turn out from other schools in the morning I got kind of bummbed, but to tell ya the truth, I don't think having a small turnout, turned out to be a bad thing. I really think dancing numa numa or cotten eye joe feels the same when danced with 15 people or 200 people. Okay, well maybe a little different- but it sure feels good to share some high knee jumps with good friends who are passionate about life.

I also was surprised of how fast it went! Shout out to the faci's and oc who really kept things going and interesting. I know I had a fun time leading some of the sessions, expecially when i got to hear about how the Dodo bird really was not extint- and there is scientific data to back it up-that part rocked.

My favorite part of the day (besides from dancing, and tunnel run thru) was the world issue discussion. I went to the one on corporate sustainability- because i heard it was going to be super interesting- and ohh it was. First of all, I had never heard of it before- so i didn't really know what to expect, and left being like- wow, there is a feesible solution to the world's environmental crisis of polution and excesive waste and all those things you think of in your head as "unsolveable."

Okay- so sustainability. Obviously i know this much about it right now (holding up my fingers showing a very small amount), but it actually makes me think that we can solve these problems- and thaaaat was a pretty amazing feeling. One of the things we talked about how "less bad" is not good. Like recycling- it is actually just a delayed process before it ends up in a landfill. We talked about how there needs a to be a system change- and how companies should have a "loop"- and ask for their products back and re use them. Another reallly cool thing was the concept of rooftop gardens. They are actually making gardens of bushes, grass, flowers, plants, trees on top of buildings. I don't know any of the science behind it- but it will reduce energy use (heating and AC) and do something with rain run off (not very sure) and also how beautiful would it be to walk down the street and every building be topped with a gorgeous garden?!

The idea was expressed that this is the new industrial revolution- and that for corporations and countires to be able to be competitive in the future- they will have to become sustainable. Just think of all the big money obsessed corps caring completley about their effects on the environment- protecting the world for tomorrow. The more I think about it- the more it seems possible to me.

AIESEC- so where does that fit in? Awesome ideas were tossed out in our group about having traineeships with companies working to be sustainable (not sure if i'm using the word right as an adjective). Raising awareness on campus, having events, encouraging people to talk about it..and on and on. AIESEC is again, a platform to launch off and make a difference int he world. In the group they said the topic was contagious- and I am begining to see why.

I'm looking forward to the book list and publishing that is soon to be sent over mavoice- and GMM presentations to follow. This shit is interesting!

Ahh- so the confrence, yes the mini confrence. It rejuvenated my @spirits- a little numa numa will do that to a girl i think.

I want my 2 hours back

When looking for a good movie to watch- refrain from seeing this. You would think by the title I could have figured this out, but as it was the only movie in my room that i hadn't see yet, I gave it a shot. Now i'm warning you all. If you don't want to be pissed off and in a bad mood when the credits role due to the fact that you just wasted 2 hours of you life...please take my advice.

T- 7 days

One week from today will be a day of celebration. Midterms will be over and papers turned in. Who is going to help me celebrate?

It aint me babe

An interesting Idea was thrown out by a girl in mi clase de espanol today. The proposal was to have one day during the school year ( not a weekend and preferably spring) that we do not have class. But that's not the half of it- Not only would we not have class, but all libraries would be locked, including all study areas on campus, as well as internet acess across campus shut down.

Now this sounds ideal to me right now, seeing as I've been finding myself in the library more often than not these past days, but can you imagine an entire campus not being able to study for a day? Of course it would be unavoidable that some people would lock themselves in their rooms for the day and study...but to have a day where you are guilt free to go outside and enjoy the ENTIRE day knowing that NO ONE is getting anything "productive" done would be amazing!

*sigh* untill then....

Get rhythm when you get the blues

Music to my ears

I can hear Numa Numa playing from West tower right now. It makes me want to do some high knee jumps alone in my room.

Unbelievable

What a day it has been. One of those days, that when you open your eyes in the morning- you have a feeling shit is going to go down. So I arise at 7am on a saturdAy. I then proceed to clean my room fully- and finish uP all of my readings and worksheets for the next two weeks. At 10am, I went to the gym and kick boxed for aRound an hour, then running, then ended with a dip in the pool. Now starving, I jog over the store and grab some ingredIents to whip up a quick lunch complete with homeade soup- and homemade dessert. It was deLicous I might add. I got a call after lunch from my mom saying that she thinks it would be good for me to take a year of school and travel the world. She inForms me that my grandparents have offered to pay fOr everything. Also, the thought that since i've been wOrking so hard, she told me I should spend the day shopping- and not worry about any upcoming tests. After shopping I sat down at my computer and started writing a novel. I've aLways wanted to- and with no worries and all my homework done i started right away. I was only interupted, when i received a phone call from the front desk of ogg saying that a dozen roSes, just dropped off by a stunning man, just arrived for me. Now i'm blogging my day as I sit here with my personal pedicurist rubbing my feet and painting my toenails. Get it?
